In an effort to promote safer pedestrian travel and enhance community connectivity, the Bayfield “Foodland” Sidewalk project is well underway.
The sidewalk, spanning from the corner of Cameron Street at Hwy 21 to the shopping plaza, broke ground on March 6th.
This much-anticipated project comes as a response to longstanding requests from village residents for improved walking infrastructure. Rather than relying solely on vehicular transportation, the new sidewalk will provide a secure path for individuals to access the shopping area on foot.
Funding for the Bayfield Foodland Sidewalk was secured through the Active Transportation Fund, a program facilitated by Infrastructure Canada at the federal level. The municipality received 60 percent of the project’s funding through this initiative.
Additional support came from partners such as BM Ross, Bayfield Lions Club, and Skyline Retail Real Estate, who either provided financial contributions or rendered services pro bono.
