During the Easter long weekend, Huron OPP officers were busy with the province-wide seatbelt campaign to keep drivers safe. There were only three minor car accidents reported in Huron County during this time, with no injuries.
Throughout the four-day campaign, Huron OPP officers gave out 26 seatbelt charges to drivers and passengers who didn’t wear seatbelts, which is risky for everyone in the vehicle. They also dealt with 163 cases of speeding, five distracted driving charges, and one case of stunt or racing driving. Additionally, two drivers were charged with impaired driving, and there were other traffic charges totaling 235. Officers also gave out 140 warnings during the campaign.
