Residents of Exeter and surrounding areas are advised to prepare for significant rainfall expected today through Friday morning, according to the latest update from Environment Canada issued this morning.
The forecast warns of total rainfall amounts ranging from 25 to 50 mm, with locally higher amounts possible in areas experiencing thunderstorms. The rainfall is anticipated to continue through tonight before tapering to showers by Friday morning.
In addition to heavy rain, there is a risk of thunderstorms developing this afternoon into tonight, potentially bringing localized rainfall amounts nearing 50 mm by Friday morning in affected areas.
As the system moves through, northwesterly winds are expected to intensify late Friday afternoon into Friday night, with gusts reaching up to 80 km/h. This will usher in cooler air, leading to a transition from rain to snow Friday night into Saturday morning.
Authorities caution that heavy downpours can result in flash floods and water pooling on roads, while localized flooding in low-lying areas is also possible.
Residents are urged to stay informed about flooding risks by consulting local Conservation Authorities or the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. For the latest updates, visit Ontario.ca/floods.
