Investigators have ruled out arson in the fire that levelled the Home Hardware in Goderich last weekend.
The blaze which kicked off at around 7pm on Saturday caused millions in damages, and burned reportedly into the following day.
Although arson couldn’t initially be ruled out, CTV now states that the cause of the fire has been deemed to be electrical in nature.
In a statement online, Mayor of Goderich Trevor Bazinet issued his thanks to the many fire departments that were on scene last weekend.
“The Town of Goderich would like to acknowledge and thank the Goderich, Bluewater, Central Huron, Howick, North Huron, and South Huron Fire Departments for all the dedicated equipment and resources they devoted to battling the Watson Home Hardware fire on Saturday evening. The responding personnel demonstrated effective firefighting efforts that prevented the spread of fire to the adjacent commercial and residential buildings.” – Mayor Trevor Bazinet
It remains to be seen what will be done with the damaged structure.
