The federal broadcast regulator has directed online streaming services including Netflix and Spotify to start paying five per cent of their annual Canadian profits into a fund.
The C-R-T-C says that fund will be devoted to producing local T-V and radio news, Indigenous content, French-language content, and content created by those with a diverse background.
It is expected to pump about 200-million-dollars into the broadcasting system every year.
