The South Huron Hospital Auxiliary Rummage Sale, held on June 11th and 12th at the South Huron Recreation Centre, proved once again to be a successful fundraiser for the South Huron Hospital.
This year’s sale, touted as the area’s largest garage sale, saw hundreds of volunteers coming together to support local healthcare.
Janet Maes, a long-time volunteer who manages the cashiers, shared insights into the immense effort behind the scenes.

The rummage sale, a major fundraising event for the South Huron Hospital, attracts numerous bargain hunters each year. “Most people show up for the great bargains,” Maes said. There was wide variety of items on offer, including nearly new quilts, home decor, Tupperware, jewelry, and name-brand boutique items.
Maes said that the proceeds go to a worthy cause.
Despite facing challenges such as a reduced number of shoppers compared to previous years, the community’s support remained strong. Linda Russell, the event’s convenor, expressed gratitude for the generous donations and patience shown by the community during the drive-thru drop-off service.
“We are pleased with our early tally of $14,000,” Russell said in an email to myFM. “Although there was a noticeable drop in the number of shoppers, possibly due to our absence since COVID or the time of year, the support from our 250 volunteers made this a successful event.”
All proceeds from the sale go back to support the South Huron Hospital, a vital resource for the rural community.
