The semi-finals of the Memorial Cup bracket might not have gone according to plan for the Saginaw Spirit, but the end result couldn’t have been better.
June 2nd hockey fans from all over tuned in for the battle of the OHL as this years winner of the Memorial Cup was determined. It came down to the wire, but ultimately, the Spirit bested OHL champions, the London Knights 4-3 to win their first Memorial Cup.
The Spirit controlled the game in the first period and early second period, taking a 3-0 lead. However, the London Knights came back strong in the third period, tying the game. With less than 30 seconds left in the third period, Josh Bloom scored the winning goal for the Spirit, securing their first Memorial Cup.
Now fans will have the chance to see the Cup up close as Josh Glavin, defenseman for the Saginaw Spirit will be bringing the Memorial Cup to his great grandparents home, Glavin Farms located at 35814 Neil Rd. in Lucan tonight between 7-8 pm.
