Kids all over the province have started their summer break and OPP wants them to have a safe and fun summer.
Now that school has ended, there are more people walking and using scooters, rollerblades, skateboards, and bikes on the streets and sidewalks. Officers will be patrolling and talking to kids about the importance of wearing safety gear. Parents and caregivers will be at work, so it’s important to think about safe internet use and water safety.
OPP wants to remind everyone to:
Drive slowly and carefully, especially near parks and recreation centers.
Use crosswalks or intersections to cross streets safely and avoid stepping out between parked cars.
Bicycle helmets are required by law and can reduce head injury risk by up to 85% when worn correctly.
Always supervise swimmers.
Never leave pets or children in a hot car.
Monitor your children’s online activity to ensure their safety.
Parents and caregivers should review these safety rules with their children.
Summer may be a break from school, but it shouldn’t be a break from safety.
