On July 31, 2024, at around 11:50 a.m., Huron County OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services, Goderich Fire Department, and the Canadian Coast Guard responded to a report of an unconscious person in the water at the Goderich pier.
The Canadian Coast Guard found the person and took them to Goderich Hospital, where they were pronounced dead despite extensive life-saving efforts by emergency responders and hospital staff. Police investigated to learn more about the person’s identity. Later, a family member reported someone missing, and the deceased was identified as a 66-year-old woman from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township.
Police are now working with the Office of the Chief Coroner to determine the cause of death.
