Canada’s two main railways are getting ready to run trains again after the government stepped in to end a rail lockout that could have disrupted business across the country.
Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon asked the Canada Industrial Relations Board to use binding arbitration to settle the dispute between Canadian National Railway, Canadian Pacific Kansas City, and their unionized workers.
The head of the workers’ union, Paul Boucher, feels the government acted too quickly. It’s hoped that trains will be running again within a few days.
