Construction on the Ontario Street Bridge in Grand Bend will begin on Tuesday, September 3rd. The project will replace and widen the bridge and is expected to take about two years. To minimize disruptions, it will be done in two phases to avoid closing the bridge completely. All work will stop during the busy summer months.
There won’t be any full closures or major detours, but some lanes will be closed and delays are likely. The first phase should finish by June 15th, 2025, and work will pause until the second phase starts in September 2025. Ontario Street will stay open for cars and pedestrians throughout. People should follow the signs and allow extra travel time.
The project will add new lanes to reduce traffic jams at the intersection of Highway 21 (Ontario Street) and Main Street during the summer. It will also create paths on both sides of Ontario Street for walking and biking.
