Back to school means we have to get used to buses, bikes and young pedestrians be a part of our morning commute.
The OPP’s Bill Dickson says drivers have to remain laser-focused on the task at hand – driving safely.
The increase in traffic means that it may take a bit longer to get where you’re going, so Dickson suggests you leave early until you get used to the new routine.
He adds when those buses do stop. Stay put.
He says build your routine around avoiding school buses, unless you enjoy those waits.
Dickson says kids are excited this time of year, so be extra careful watching for young pedestrians and cyclists.
He adds not every community has a crosswalk and some kids can dart out between parked cars, so reduce your speed especially when in a school zone or near a bus stop.
Ultimately failure to do so could result in serious charges being laid, or worse: a severe injury or death to a student.
