Council had a busy agenda last week and part of that meeting, Mike Rolph, Director of Building and Planning Services for South Huron, shared a report with council, about renewing a shared services agreement with the Township of Perth South.
The new agreement aims to improve cooperation between South Huron and Perth South in enforcing building codes. It will replace the old agreement, which ended in September 2017. The updated deal ensures both municipalities have consistent building services coverage, including handling vacations, unexpected staff absences, and extra workloads.
This agreement will follow the same model as the current one with Bluewater, providing a flexible team of professionals to manage varying needs and maintain continuous service. The updated terms include a 2% yearly increase in service fees and mileage costs based on current rates.
Perth South will review the agreement at their council meeting in September 2024. The renewed agreement will be formalized with a by-law requiring three readings.
There are no new staffing or legal impacts, and the costs will be covered by the existing building services budget. The renewed agreement is expected to strengthen the partnership and improve building code enforcement for both municipalities.
