The Municipality of South Huron is getting ready to improve its drainage systems with two major projects. The first is the Brock-Hern Municipal Drain, which serves parts of Lots 1 and 2 in Concession 7, Lots 1 to 3 in Concession 8, and part of Lot 2 in Concession 9. The second project is for the Ballantyne Municipal Drain, covering Lot 18 in Concessions 7 and 8, and parts of Lots 12 to 14 in the S.T.R. Concession.
Dietrich Engineering Limited has prepared reports for both projects. The Brock-Hern Municipal Drain, built in 1968, needs updates. Plans include moving part of the drain, installing about 87 meters of new pipe, and connecting private drains to the new system. The total estimated cost is $19,500.
The Ballantyne Municipal Drain, built in 1966 and updated in 2000, also needs work. The new plan involves installing about 565 meters of concrete tiles and a catch basin, while the old drain will be abandoned. This project is expected to cost $89,800.
Meetings about the Ballantyne project were held on June 6th and July 30th, 2024. After the upgrades, it will be named “Ballantyne Municipal Drain 2024.” The Municipality of South Huron will maintain both systems and share the costs among the affected lands and roads.
These upgrades will improve drainage and ensure the systems meet current standards, benefiting local residents and landowners.
