The Central Huron Music Department is excited to start a new strings program at the school, adding to their jazz, wind band, and rock music offerings.
The program received a boost from the local community, which donated strings to help get it started. The program, aims to provide a variety of instruments for students, as playing music is linked to better academic performance and creativity.
The new instruments include three violins, a viola, and a cello. Students taking music classes will have the chance to play these instruments as part of their coursework, and a quintet has already begun at the school.
The CHSS music department is looking for more string instrument donations, including violins, violas, cellos, and double basses. Community members who wish to donate can contact Aaron Neeb at aaron.neeb@ed.amdsb.ca or call Central Huron Secondary School at (519) 482-3471.
