Huron County is working to provide more affordable housing by building new units. One of the latest projects is a 20-unit apartment building on Sanders Street in Exeter, which is expected to be ready by late 2024. This building is on an existing County housing site and is partly funded by the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative.
The County has two housing projects in progress to increase the number of affordable homes and help tackle homelessness. The design was done by JPM Architecture Inc. from Goderich, and it follows the County’s High Performance Building Standard, which focuses on efficiency, durability, and sustainability. The building will have several accessible units with features like roll-under sinks, pull-down shelves, and smooth balcony entrances. Strong materials have been used to ensure the building lasts and is easy to maintain.
