Fall leaf collection is happening in Brussels, Egmondville, Harpurhey, Seaforth, and Vanastra every Monday until November 18th if the weather is good. If a Monday is a holiday, the collection will happen the next day.
Leaves must be put in biodegradable paper bags, and each bag should not weigh more than 23 kg (50 lbs). The staff will not pick up bags that are too heavy, that are not biodegradable, or that have other waste like garbage or animal waste.
A great way to handle leaves is to mulch them with your lawnmower. This keeps the leaves from blowing away and adds good nutrients to your lawn. To keep roads safe and storm drains clear, do not rake leaves to the curb.
After the collection period ends, residents should take any remaining bags to their local compost site. Huron East has two compost sites where residents can drop off yard waste: one at 79522 Hannah Line in Harpurhey and another at 108 Turnberry St. in Brussels.
