On Friday, Enbridge Gas and Bluewater Fire Services teamed up to improve home safety and reduce fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths. Bluewater Fire Services received 144 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms through the Safe Community Project Zero program. This initiative, run by Enbridge Gas and the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council, aims to distribute over 14,500 alarms to residents in 75 Ontario communities this year.
Enbridge Gas contributed $450,000 to the program this year, continuing a 16-year effort that has provided more than 101,000 alarms to Ontario fire departments. These devices are crucial for early warnings in case of house fires or carbon monoxide exposure, helping families escape safely.
Bluewater Fire Services has already distributed most of the donated alarms during a door-to-door campaign in local villages. Firefighters used the opportunity to teach residents about the importance of having functional alarms to protect their homes and families.
