Two cardboard boxes delivered to a residential home wait outside a black metal front door on a brick patio, Midwest, USA
With the onset of the holiday season and the increase in online orders Police are sending a reminder out to be wary of Porch Pirates.
That was Samantha Wakefield, Corporate Communications Coordinator stopped by myFM to break down a number of precautions we can all take to deter these thieves.
She says one of the best ways to safeguard your deliveries is by making sure it’s not left unattended for an extended period.
If these aren’t an option, you could also request signature on delivery. This ensures that packages aren’t just left on your door step where they become increasingly vulnerable to theft. And if you do get that notification that your delivery has arrived early while you’re not at home, reaching out to a trusted neighbour could be your back up plan.
Another proactive measure you could take is installing security cameras on your property notes Wakefield.
Wakefield adds that if you do notice suspicious behavior in your neighbourhood or become a victim of package theft, report it to Police right away.
