Goderich residents might have noticed there’s a new light in town, but for many it might have went right over their head.
The Bayfield Road and Bennett Street East area has a new overhead lighting system installed. This has been upgraded to improve visibility and enhance public safety. The lighting system is expected to help motorists notice pedestrians and comply with safety measures at the intersection.
Veteran crossing guard Sheila Donatis, who has safeguarded pedestrians in Goderich for over 30 years, welcomes the addition. She believes the flashing lights will increase driver awareness and, along with her handheld stop sign, create a safer environment for all crossing the roadway.
The OPP urges all road users to stay vigilant and follow safety protocols, especially at crosswalks.
