Confirming the speculation during a news conference this morning, Premier Doug Ford shared that he will in fact be calling an early provincial election next Wednesday.
While speaking in Brampton, Ford told reporters he will be seeing the lieutenant governor on Tuesday, before making the official call on Wednesday, January 29th.
Although the election was initially set for June 2026, it has been moved up as Ford has expressed the need for a new mandate to address the challenges of four years under a Donald Trump presidency in the U.S.
Opposition parties are arguing that an early vote isn’t necessary.
