It’s President’s Club Feature Day here on myFM, sponsored by Jayden’s Mechanical! The Clinton Legion plays an important role in the community by supporting veterans, remembering those who served, and helping local residents. Shirley Chalmers, the president of the Clinton Legion, has been leading the branch for three years in her current term, though she has served as president four times in total.
As president, she ensures the Legion is managed properly, follows official rules, and works in the best interest of members and the community. Shirley’s connection to the Legion began with her family—her father was a Legion member, and her mother was part of the Ladies Auxiliary. With a strong military history in her family, she became involved in the Legion’s executive team and has been active ever since.
The Legion is an essential part of the community, similar to other service clubs. It was founded after the First World War to support veterans, and its work continues today. The Clinton branch focuses on youth programs and community events.
The Legion organizes regular activities such as monthly bingo nights, meat draws, and dessert draws on Saturdays. A new project, in partnership with the municipality, will encourage people to crochet or knit poppies. These handmade poppies will be displayed in 2025 to honor those who served.
