In a video posted to social media, Sergeant Ed Sanchuck of the West Region OPP stood near a partially melted body of water, pointing out hockey nets that were left abandoned on the unstable ice.
As melting snow, rain, and fluctuating temperatures across Southwestern Ontario have weaken ice surfaces, he urged residents to resist the temptation to retrieve items, as falling through the ice could quickly become life-threatening.
Sanchuk issued this public safety reminder.
The OPP’s message is clear: avoid venturing onto frozen ponds, lakes, or rivers, and prioritize safety as the weather shifts.
