Canadians in many provinces and territories will receive a test alert on Wednesday, May 7th as part of a nationwide emergency preparedness system called Alert Ready.
The alert will be sent to TVs, radios, and compatible cell phones to make sure the system works properly. In Ontario, the test will happen at about 12:55 p.m. Eastern Time. It will start with a loud alert sound, followed by a message clearly stating that it is only a test and no action is needed.
The test is meant to help people recognize what a real emergency alert would look and sound like. While most Canadians should receive the test on their wireless devices, some may not. This could be due to phone settings, software, network type, or signal coverage.
