Turtle nesting season has started! This is the time when turtles look for safe places to lay their eggs. Many turtles like to make their nests on gravel shoulders by the side of roads. These areas are often good spots for turtles to dig and lay their eggs.
Because of this, turtles will be crossing roads more often. They move very slowly, so it can be hard to see them. Drivers and people walking should be extra careful and watch for turtles on or near the road. Slowing down can help prevent accidents and protect these animals.
If you see a turtle trying to cross the road, you can help by moving it safely in the direction it was going. It is important to move the turtle carefully and not take it far from where you found it.
Turtles play an important role in nature, and helping them during nesting season is very important. Let’s all be aware and do our part to keep turtles safe this spring and summer.
