Police and emergency teams will be holding a special training exercise at South Huron District High School in Exeter on Friday, June 6th. The training is being organized by the Huron County OPP, along with their Tactics and Rescue Unit and Emergency Response Team, in partnership with the Avon Maitland District School Board.
Students will not be at school that day because it is a scheduled P.A. Day. The training will take place from 9 a.m. to about 3:30 p.m. at the school on Gidley Street East.
The goal of the training is to prepare officers and emergency teams for high-risk situations, including how to respond to active threats. This kind of training helps police and school staff stay ready to protect the community in case of a real emergency.
People in the area may see police vehicles and officers around the school during the day. There is no need for concern, as this is only a practice exercise.
Inspector Laura Lee Brown from the Huron OPP said that working with schools helps make sure officers are prepared and helps keep the community safe. Superintendent Jane Morris from the school board added that using the school setting for training is valuable, even though no students or staff will be present.
