The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding everyone to put safety first during ATV Safety Awareness Week, which runs from May 30th to June 8th.
Sergeant Ed Sanchuck from the OPP’s West Region says the message is simple: ride safe and come home safe.
The OPP is working together with the Ontario Federation of ATV Clubs to raise awareness.
Another concern is impaired driving. Last year, 15 more lives were lost due to drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol while operating off-road vehicles.
Sanchuck urges everyone to speak up if they see unsafe behaviour on the trails.
The OPP also encourages riders to stay within their skill level, slow down, especially in unfamiliar areas, and know the trails before heading out.
