South Huron Council took time this week to recognize the hard work and dedication of its local firefighters. At a special meeting held Monday evening, several members of the South Huron Fire Department were honoured for their years of service, ranging from five to thirty years.
Among those recognized were Jeff Van Niekerk, who has served for five years, and Jason Masse, Braden Talbot, and Ben Case, each marking ten years of service. Sam Datars, Tom Griffith, and James Yates were each honoured for fifteen years of commitment, while Brad Ankers was recognized for twenty years. Two longtime firefighters, Tim Moore and Jeremy Becker, were each celebrated for thirty years of dedicated service to the community.
Firefighters in South Huron do far more than fight fires. They respond to medical emergencies, vehicle crashes, and severe weather events. They also play a key role in fire prevention and safety education, often visiting schools and speaking at public events. Many of these firefighters are volunteers who make themselves available at all hours of the day or night, often putting themselves in harm’s way to help others.
Council members thanked all those recognized for their ongoing service and sacrifice. Their work helps protect homes, families, and the entire community in times of need. South Huron is a safer place because of the bravery, training, and teamwork shown by its firefighters.
