The Grand Bend Speedway is gearing up for a big celebration this Sunday with a special Cobra Cup Race Day and Alumni Reunion.
Tabitha Van Bruwaene, owner and operator of the Grand Bend Speedway and Go-Kart Center, says the event is all about honouring the track’s 30-year history and the many racers who have made it what it is today.
Alumni who bring a photo of their race car and a canned food donation will get in for free. The food drive, called “Fill a Race Car,” supports the Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre.
Spectators who bring a food donation will also get $5 off their admission.
One returning racer is Nick Ramsey, who began racing at Grand Bend as a kid and now competes in late model races across Ontario. He’ll be back for a special go-kart race as part of the event.
The day kicks off at 11:30 a.m. when the grandstands open and drivers begin practicing. Racing officially starts at 1:00 p.m. with the national anthem, followed by a full schedule of races.
Van Bruwaene said the Speedway is proud to give back to the community while also showing off what local racing is all about.
The event is weather-dependent. If it rains, racing will be postponed, and a new date will be shared on the Grand Bend Speedway Facebook page and website.
