A child is safe after drifting out into Lake Huron on an inflatable ring near Black’s Point Beach, just south of Goderich.
The incident happened just after noon on Monday, June 23rd, when emergency crews were called about a child who had floated away from shore while playing in the water.
The Huron County OPP Marine Unit, the Canadian Coast Guard in Goderich, and Huron County Paramedics quickly responded. They found the child about 500 to 700 metres from shore and brought them back safely. Thankfully, the child was wearing a life jacket and was in good health.
Police are reminding everyone to stay alert when spending time near the water. Wind, waves, and strong currents can change quickly and lead to dangerous situations. Always use safety gear and keep a close eye on children while near or in the water.
