OPP reports four fatalities over Thanksgiving Weekend as traffic charges soar

During Operation Impact, officers focused on keeping roads safe by targeting speeding, impaired driving, and distracted driving. More than 8,800 traffic charges were laid, with speeding accounting for over half of them at 4,518 charges. Police also reported 158 racing or stunt driving offences and 170 impaired driving charges.
From January 1 to October 12, the OPP responded to 244 fatal collisions in Ontario, resulting in 279 deaths. Police say nearly all of these tragedies were preventable and remind everyone to always follow traffic laws to stay safe on the road.
