On October 10th, the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) partnered with the Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) and Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board (HPCDSB) for an emergency response training exercise at Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton. St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary School’s training was cancelled due to a shortage of facilitators after an urgent OPP call elsewhere in the province.
The school was closed to students that day for a P.A. Day. During the exercise, emergency responders practiced scenarios involving high-risk situations, including responses to active attackers.
Residents may have noticed several emergency response vehicles and personnel around the school during the training.
Participants included members of the West Region OPP ERT, West Region OPP In Service Training, Huron and Middlesex OPP Auxiliary, and officers from Huron, Oxford, Brant, and Middlesex OPP. Students from Fanshawe, Lambton, and Conestoga College also took part, along with Huron OPP Detachment Board members and school officials from both AMDSB and HPCDSB. West Region OPP Victim Specialists were also involved.
