Huron County OPP responded to a call about an aggressive dog in the Village of Hensall, Municipality of Bluewater, on October 16th just before 1 p.m.
Police say the dog, described as a pit bull type, attacked a pedestrian before running loose through the community. When officers arrived, the dog remained aggressive and was considered a danger to the public. One of the officers fired their gun toward the animal, and the dog fled the area.
The person who was bitten was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The dog ran south through Hensall near an elementary school. As a safety precaution, police asked the school to keep students inside. Officers then saw the dog run through a nearby farm field and into a wooded area.
The dog was described as mostly white with some black fur, weighing about 120 pounds.
It was later found in Hensall and taken to a local veterinary clinic, where it has been quarantined. The dog was not hurt. Charges are expected for the owner, and the Municipality of Bluewater’s bylaw enforcement is helping with the investigation.
