As World Kindness Day approaches on November 13, Open Doors is preparing to spread warmth and compassion across the community with its annual “Kindness Campaign.”
The group, which supports individuals with disabilities, will be handing out free items to the community as McKenna “Kenna” Demarest explains:
Open Doors’ World Kindness Day efforts aren’t just about donations – they’re about connection.
Last year, participants gathered at the Kingfisher Café, where they handed out coupons and cups.
New Orleans Pizza gave out free pizza for the event last year as well.
The group is hopeful to have more businesses to join in on the day this year as well.
In the past, local companies donate hats, socks, and mitts — and even cash so they can shop for more supplies.
On November 13, Open Doors volunteers will be stationed at the corner of Highway 3 and 24 near the billboards, handing out items to passing cars.
Later in the afternoon, the group will gather again at Kingfisher Café around 1:30 p.m. before walking through town to continue distributing kindness and supplies.
Kenna says the mission of Open Doors goes beyond simple giving.
For those who want to get involved, organizers encourage local businesses and individuals to donate supplies or perform their own acts of kindness in celebration of the day.
World Kindness Day is celebrated each year on November 13 as a global movement to promote empathy, generosity, and connection.
