The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) is launching a free online workshop series called Stronger Leaders, Stronger Communities to help current and future municipal leaders prepare for the 2026 elections.
The program is part of AMO’s Healthy Democracy Project and is designed for both elected officials planning to run again and community members thinking about running for office for the first time.
The sessions will help participants handle the challenges of public service, including political division, online negativity, and the stress of being in the public eye. The goal is to give leaders the tools, confidence, and resilience they need while reminding them why they chose to serve their communities.
Each session includes expert advice, group discussions, and practical takeaways. Participants can join all sessions or select individual ones. Topics include leading with purpose, managing conflict, protecting mental health, and turning values into community action.
Two separate streams will be offered. Stream 1 is for current municipal officials considering re-election, while Stream 2 is for new candidates or residents thinking about entering local politics.
Workshops for Stream 1 will take place from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on November 26, 2025; January 28, 2026; February 25, 2026; and March 25, 2026.
Stream 2 sessions will run on December 3, 2025; February 4, 2026; March 4, 2026; and April 1, 2026.
Registration is free, and more information is available on AMO’s Healthy Democracy Project website.
