After getting a surprise dumping of snow, many Norfolk County residents rushing to do some yard cleanup because winter rears its head again.
As you are raking those leaves, the Fire Department is reminding everyone that burning them without a permit is not allowed.
Fire Prevention Officer Cory Armstrong-Smith says that while Norfolk County offers seasonal yard waste pickup for most residents, he realizes this isn’t available to everyone.
The process, Armstrong-Smith says, isn’t just about paperwork – it’s about knowledge.
Permits also outline strict rules for burning that you may not know about.
Residents are encouraged to review the open-air burning bylaw and apply for a permit if they plan to burn. More information, including current burn conditions and online permit applications, can be found at NorfolkCounty.ca/fire.
