The Bluewater Recycling Association is giving residents a heads-up about a big change coming to the blue bin. Starting January 1st, 2026, flexible plastic packaging will be accepted for recycling.
This includes soft, squishy plastics that could not be recycled before, such as bags for bread, newspapers, and dry cleaning, overwrap from paper towels, toilet paper, and beverage cases, coffee bags, deli pouches, chip and snack bags, cereal box liners, plastic gift bags, and bubble wrap.
All items must be clean and dry before being placed in the blue bin. Residents should shake out crumbs, wipe away any residue, and remove hard plastic pieces.
Until January 2026, these items still belong in the garbage. The association will continue to share reminders as the start date gets closer.
This change is part of Bluewater Recycling’s effort to make recycling easier and reduce waste in the community.
