With cold weather on the way, the Lambton County OPP are reminding drivers to prepare for winter conditions and stay safe on the roads.
Winter can bring icy roads, heavy snow, and poor visibility, which can make driving more dangerous. The OPP says taking a few simple steps now can help prevent crashes and keep everyone safe.
Drivers are encouraged to get their vehicles ready for winter by installing winter tires, checking their battery, and making sure their wipers and lights are working properly. Windshield washer fluid and antifreeze should be topped up, and an emergency kit should be kept in the vehicle. This kit can include a blanket, flashlight, snacks, first-aid supplies, and booster cables.
The OPP also reminds drivers to adjust their habits when winter weather hits. Drivers should slow down, leave more space between vehicles, and clear all snow and ice from their car before heading out. Sudden braking or turning should be avoided to prevent sliding.
Drivers are also encouraged to check weather and road conditions before travelling. Up-to-date information is available on the 511 Ontario website.
The OPP says safe winter driving begins with good preparation and encourages everyone to do their part to help keep roads safe this season.
