The Norfolk General Hospital Volunteer Association is celebrating its largest 50/50 jackpot to date — and the winner is someone who has been giving back to the hospital community for years.
Waterford resident Jane Jarvis, a dedicated volunteer and familiar face at Norfolk General Hospital, was named the 2025 jackpot winner in a moment that surprised everyone in the room, including Jane herself.
Jarvis has volunteered at NGH for nearly five years, primarily through Patient Transfer Services, where she helps patients move safely to and from appointments.
She also serves as Communications Director on the Volunteer Association Board of Directors, contributing to newsletters, events, and volunteer engagement. Her commitment and warmth have made her a beloved member of the hospital community.
On October 31, Jarvis attended the draw expecting only to take photos for the Volunteer Newsletter. Instead, the room erupted when the winning number revealed her as the jackpot recipient.
She hasn’t made concrete plans for the prize yet but says she hopes to “do some good with it” once the holiday season is over.
Since the draw launched in 2023, more than $50,000 in prizes have been awarded. All proceeds from ticket sales support the purchase of vital equipment that helps provide safe, reliable care for patients and residents across the hospital system.
