Huron County Ontario Provincial Police officers are now using body-worn cameras. The OPP says this new tool will help improve evidence, increase accountability and transparency, and make both the public and officers safer.
The cameras were added after the successful use of in-car cameras, which include an Automated Licence Plate Recognition system. Now, every uniformed officer in Huron County and other detachments in the West Region will wear a body-worn camera.
The cameras are worn on the front of the officer’s vest, where they can be easily seen. When the camera is on standby, it shows a green ring with flashing lights. When the camera starts recording, the lights turn flashing red.
The Huron County OPP says it will continue working to keep the public safe and provide modern, proactive policing. The detachment thanked the community for its support in helping build safer communities for everyone.
