Ontario MPP Bobbi Ann Brady says building and maintaining strong relationships across borders is an investment that pays long-term dividends for the province.
In a recent column, Brady reflected on attending two U.S. conferences, including the Council of State Governments National Convention in Chicago. She was one of only a few Ontario delegates taking part in discussions on trade, housing, energy, and restoring civility in politics.
Brady says meetings with U.S. trade officials highlighted opportunities to strengthen economic ties and explore how Ontario’s industrial park in Nanticoke could help meet electricity needs through 2050. The delegation also met with officials from Canada’s consulate to ensure Ontario’s interests remain well represented, regardless of political change.
She noted Illinois is Ontario’s fourth-largest U.S. export market and a key logistics hub. Brady also praised the convention’s Service with Civility Project and highlighted former Ontario Speaker Ted Arnott, who was honoured for fostering cross-border cooperation.
Brady says lasting progress depends on trust, collaboration, and relationships that endure beyond changing political landscapes.
