South Huron Minor Hockey is preparing for an exciting new chapter!
The Ontario Hockey Federation, with support from the Ontario Minor Hockey Association, has approved South Huron Minor Hockey to be officially been recategorized as an “A” centre starting in the 2026–2027 season.
Mike McLellan, President of South Huron Minor Hockey, says the change is huge news.
One of the biggest differences between an A centre and a B centre is how players are grouped at the representative level.
McLellan says this will create stronger development opportunities and more consistent competition.
The move has been carefully planned, with research and discussions taking place over the past few years. McLellan says it became important to make the change.
He mentioned the move has been in the works for some time now.
The association says it is excited to give players the chance to compete at a higher level while staying part of the South Huron Sabres organization.
The change will also allow South Huron Minor Hockey to continue offering Girls Hockey and Boys Local League programs, along with the new Boys Representative Teams. All teams will remain part of Sabres Nation and continue to wear the Sabres logo with pride.
The registration process will remain similar to last year. Players who want to try out for a rep A team must register for tryouts first. If selected, they will then complete their registration with the association.
More details will be shared in the coming months. Families are encouraged to visit southhuronminorhockey.ca for the latest updates.
