Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Warning for snow squalls in Exeter, Goderich, Bluewater and Southern Huron County.
Snow squalls are already affecting the area. Forecasters say strong westerly winds, gusting up to 60 kilometres per hour, are pushing snow off Lake Huron. This is leading to heavy snow and blowing snow in some areas.
Visibility may drop to near zero at times. Snowfall amounts are expected to range from 10 to 20 centimetres, with some areas possibly seeing even higher totals. Amounts will vary across the region as snow squall bands shift.
Conditions are expected to continue through tonight. Winds are forecast to weaken later this evening as high pressure moves in, which should bring an end to the snow squalls. Travel may be dangerous, and road closures are possible. Residents are encouraged to postpone non-essential travel and outdoor activities until conditions improve.
