The Coldest Night of the Year walk returns to Simcoe this weekend, bringing the community together for a family-friendly winter fundraiser supporting local programs that serve people experiencing hunger, hurt, and homelessness.
Locally, the event is organized to support Youth Unlimited which operates year-round – and Satellite Director is Dan Avey is excited to see a milestone has already been hit ahead of the walk this Saturday.
Avey points to the symbolism of gathering during the cold season as a powerful message of solidarity. He notes that while participants experience a short walk in the winter air, many community members have endured far harsher conditions, including recent extreme cold snaps.
With that in mind, Avey says that the route is designed to increase awareness and to educate.
Even those unable to attend in person can contribute.
Donations and sponsorships remain a critical part of the fundraiser, and volunteers are still needed to help guide walkers and support event logistics.
Registration and details are available online.
