A popular festival in Goderich is receiving provincial recognition.
Jenna Ujiye, Tourism and Community Development Manager says the recognition is exciting, especially since the festival is still fairly new. The event will be entering its fourth year in 2026.
The festival celebrates one of the community’s most unique features, the Goderich Salt Mine, known as the world’s largest underground salt mine. Ujiye say highlighting the mine has helped create a unique tourism experience for visitors.
Ujiye said creative marketing played a big role in the award. The festival promoted the event with a historical brochure, an updated website, and even a virtual reality experience that allows people to explore the salt mine underground.
She mentioned festival would not be possible without the support of volunteers, businesses, and community partners.
Local businesses in downtown Goderich also play an important role by opening their doors and helping create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors.
Planning is already underway for the 2026 festival, which will include many popular attractions from previous years.
Ujiye says they are also preparing to announce two major concerts that will take place on the Friday and Saturday of the festival.
