The Ontario government is investing more than $4.3 million to improve access to health care in Huron and Perth counties.
Local MPPs Matthew Rae (Perth-Wellington) and Lisa Thompson (Huron-Bruce) announced that the Huron Perth and Area Ontario Health Team will receive $4,324,000 through the province’s Primary Care Action Plan. The funding is expected to help connect more than 10,000 additional patients to a family doctor or primary care team.
Officials say the money will be shared among several Family Health Teams across the region, including clinics in communities like Goderich, Exeter, Seaforth, Listowel, and Stratford. The goal is to recruit more health care professionals and make it easier for residents to get care close to home.
Thompson says the investment is an important step in strengthening rural health care and making services more accessible for families. Matthew Rae adds that it will help improve access to care and support the long-term growth of the local health system.
Residents who do not have a family doctor are encouraged to sign up for Health Care Connect, which helps match patients with available providers.
Health officials say the funding will help improve coordination between care teams and make it easier for people to access the services they need.
Across Ontario, the province is working toward connecting everyone to a family doctor or primary care provider by 2029.
