The Municipality of South Huron is advising residents that nomination papers are now being accepted for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections.
The election will take place on October 26th. Anyone interested in running for office must file their nomination with the Returning Officer during the official nomination period.
Nominations will be accepted from the first business day of May until August 20th during regular office hours. On Nomination Day, Friday, August 21st, papers can be filed between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. An appointment is required to file nominations.
Candidates must complete the required forms and provide 25 signatures of support from eligible voters. School board candidates are exempt from the signature requirement. A filing fee is also required, set at $200 for Head of Council and $100 for all other positions. Fees must be paid at the time of filing.
Officials remind candidates that campaign spending or fundraising cannot begin until nomination papers have been filed and accepted.
Nomination packages are available at South Huron Town Hall in Exeter and online through the municipality’s website.
Voters will elect a Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Councillors for Wards 1, 2, and 3, along with representatives for local school boards, including the Avon Maitland District School Board and the Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board.
