Sarnia Police have made an arrest in connection with a deadly shooting at a Lambton College campus bar earlier this month.
Police say the incident happened on April 10th, just before 1:00 a.m. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found three people injured at the scene. One person had life-threatening injuries, while two others had injuries that were not life-threatening.
Despite efforts to save him, 20-year-old Dane Nisbet later passed away in hospital.
Police quickly identified a suspect, who fled the scene and remained at large for more than two weeks. A Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest.
On April 27th, investigators located the suspect at a home in London, Ontario. With help from the London Police Service and its Emergency Response Unit, officers surrounded the residence. The suspect later surrendered to police without incident.
Kyaw “Chin” Doe, 24, of London, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, and possession of a firearm while prohibited.
He remains in custody and is scheduled for a bail hearing.
“The Sarnia Police Service extends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Dane Nisbet. This has been devastating to them and to our community. We hope that this arrest brings a small measure of comfort, as the grief of Dane’s loss continues to be felt.” – Chief Derek Davis
