The Ontario government is holding a 30-day consultation on allowing over-the-counter hearing aids to be sold and activated in the province.
The proposal would give people with mild hearing loss more accessible options while keeping prescription hearing aids and public coverage in place.
Currently, hearing aids require a prescription, and some built-in device features cannot legally be activated under existing rules.
Officials say feedback will be reviewed before any regulatory changes are made as part of Ontario’s broader health innovation strategy.
