The federal government is planning to ban cryptocurrency ATMs as part of new measures aimed at cracking down on financial crime.
Officials say the machines are increasingly being used by scammers to defraud victims and by criminals to convert illicit proceeds into digital currency.
Canada currently has nearly 4,000 cryptocurrency ATMs, the highest number per capita in the world, though Canadians would still be able to purchase cryptocurrency through regulated businesses.
